As a lifetime chocoholic and a devotee of massage, there couldn’t be a more perfect treatment for me than a two hour Chocolate massage.
The treatment, delivered by Ripple Massage in the comfort of my room at the Brisbane Stamford Plaza Hotel, was as indulgent and relaxing as I’d hoped.
After a foot wash by therapist Kirsty, the first stage of the chocolate massage was a careful exfoliation. This progressed literally limb by limb, with the grainy paste being rubbed into my legs, my arms and my torso before being wiped off again.
Then it was time for the main event, the massage using chocolate-infused massage oil.
The warmed oil felt smooth and pleasant on the skin, creamier than a normal oil, and smelt only faintly of chocolate, which is probably a good thing. Too strong a scent would have been less relaxing or at least too tempting!
When you eat chocolate it is said to enhance your mood, with the phenylethylamine in it raising seratonin levels and its flavanoids promoting blood flow and acting as an antioxidant. It can also nourish the skin when applied during treatments so this kind of massage is not only deeply relaxing but therapeutic too.
By its nature a chocolate massage demands a light touch so is probably not the best option if you have thick knots in your back or shoulders that need ironing out. But if you want a deeply soothing treatment and a small box of delicious Lindt chocolates to nibble on after, then the chocolate massage is highly recommended.
Best of all, with Ripple Massage coming to your hotel room, you can continue relaxing after the treatment is finished.
