I’ve been hearing about Lilianfels Blue Mountains Resort and Spa, in Katoomba, for as long as I can remember.
“It’s the best luxurious retreat in the Blue Mountains” I’d heard people say over and over again.
I knew it was also famous for its amazing views of the Jameson Valley, and its proximity to the famous Three Sisters rock formation. What better place to send a romantic night away?
We stayed in a very comfortable Deluxe room with lots of silk and frills. Ours was pink-themed, though we could also have had a green or lilac room. After exploring the wonderful mountain gardens, with its tennis court and beautiful main pool, we set out for a short stroll to see the Three Sisters.
A beautiful room calls for a late afternoon nap, and we did it justice. We woke just in time for a glass of champagne before dinner.
We could have dined at the historic Darleys Restaurant at Lilianfels itself, but this time around we decided to have dinner at Echoes Boutique Hotel & Restaurant. It was right next door and, because it’s owned by the owners of Lilianfels, we could put the meal on our room.
Wow! The panoramic rainforest view from the amazing outdoor balcony was truly spectacular, and the food and service were very impressive. It was a feast for the senses.
After a pleasant night’s sleep back at Lilianfels it was time for a massage:
He says: “I opted for a four-hour pampering package simply called the Lilianfels Retreat. It started off with a languid bath followed by a full body exfoliation and a nourishing wrap. I loved the feel of finely ground crystals being rubbed smoothly over my skin. Then came a long massage, paying particular attention to the knots in my shoulder muscles. Scented oils and relaxing Indian music added to the experience.
Next was a facial using Payot products from Paris, along with a luxurious scalp massage. The masseuse used products from the men’s range of products, for their ‘more masculine’ scents. Finally, I was treated to a volcanic stone foot massage using rounded hot pebbles. I left with a pleasant tingling sensation over most of my body. Afterwards, I relaxed for a while in the hot tub and sauna, before a cooling dip in one of the resort’s two swimming pools.”
She say: “Let me start by saying that it was Monday morning, and anything - even a back scratch with the BBQ fork was going to be preferable to sitting down at my desk to work. Having said that, my one-hour treatment at Lilianfels Spa was really nice. I combined a half hour Express Facial with a half hour Warmed Poultice Back Treatment. The back treatment used a combination of massage and poultices made of calico and filled with aromatic dried flowers - calendula, lavender, rose and chamomile - and warmed in hot water. My therapist Anna massaged me both by hand and with the poultices alternately, to give a gentle and relaxing back and shoulder massage.
Next, I was snugly cocooned in warm blankets and had a facial. This consisted of a cleanse, exfoliation, a tingling hydrating mask and facial massage, eye and face gel and a moisturize. I really liked that while the mask was working its wonders, rather than leave the room or prepare something else, Anna continued the treatment with a lovely scalp, neck and shoulder massage.”
